Local SEO Homepage Optimisation: Page-One and AI Overview Results

Owned-business optimisation project
Areas: Local SEO, keyword research, website copy, Squarespace, on-page optimisation, AI visibility and performance monitoring
Period: August 2026

The challenge

As I shifted the focus of Louise Laurie Marketing from primarily offering educational courses to providing consultancy and practical marketing support, my homepage no longer reflected what I did, who I helped or where I was based.

The main heading was focused on confidence and clarity but didn’t identify me as a marketing consultant or strategist. My location wasn’t prominent, my introduction was too long and my services, credibility signals and important internal links needed clearer signposting.

The website was not appearing for the local searches I wanted to target.

The objective

I wanted to reposition the homepage so that visitors, search engines and AI-powered tools could quickly understand:

  • What services I provide

  • That I primarily support small businesses and solo founders

  • That I am based in Cheshire and work with businesses across the UK

  • That I offer both strategic guidance and practical implementation

  • Why potential clients could trust my experience and expertise

The wider objective was to shift the website’s emphasis from promoting courses towards attracting relevant consultancy enquiries.

Research and approach

I used Ubersuggest to compare relevant search terms based on likely intent, search volume and competition.

Rather than focusing on broad, competitive terms such as “marketing consultant,” I prioritised more specific local searches, including:

  • Marketing consultant Cheshire

  • Marketing strategist Cheshire

  • Cheshire marketing strategist

Although these terms had lower estimated search volumes, they offered clearer commercial intent and were more relevant to the clients I wanted to reach.

What I changed

I worked through the Squarespace homepage section by section, focusing on clarity and consistency rather than simply adding more keywords.

The changes included:

  • Replacing the vague H1 with a clearer, location-focused heading

  • Adding supporting eyebrow text to clarify my services and location

  • Shortening and focusing the introductory copy

  • Updating the page title, SEO title and meta description

  • Restructuring and clarifying the available marketing services

  • Making my experience, qualifications and testimonials more prominent

  • Adding natural references to Crewe and Cheshire across relevant pages

  • Improving internal links between services, content and enquiry pages

  • Replacing generic calls to action with clearer next steps

  • Requesting reindexing through Google Search Console

I also strengthened the consistency between the homepage, service pages, FAQs, contact information and website footer.

The early results

Within days of publishing the changes, the homepage began appearing on the first page of Google for:

  • Marketing consultant Cheshire

  • Marketing strategist Cheshire

  • Cheshire marketing strategist

On 18 August 2026, Google’s AI Overview also listed me first among the independent consultants for “Cheshire marketing strategist” and displayed my homepage as a leading source card.

These were encouraging early results rather than guaranteed permanent positions. Search rankings and AI-generated answers can change according to location, device, competition and other factors, so I continue to monitor impressions, rankings, clicks, organic traffic and relevant enquiries. What the project demonstrates

This project shows how clearer positioning, relevant keyword research, useful website copy and consistent trust and location signals can work together.

It also demonstrates that SEO and AI visibility are not separate shortcuts. Both depend on making a business, its audience, location and expertise easier for people and search systems to understand.
